Christina Weltz, MD

Assistant Professor of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology, Mount Sinai
School of Medicine

Christina Weltz was born and raised in New York City, and attended The Chapin School. She completed her course-work early and worked during her final year of high school as a legislative assistant to U.S. Senator Max Baucus in Washington, D.C. She studied history, literature and art history at Harvard College, all the while intending to attend law school and then to pursue a career in politics. Her plans changed suddenly and dramatically while volunteering at Children’s Hospital of Boston during her senior year, and she pursued pre-med studies before graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, she trained in general and thoracic surgery at Duke University Medical Center, completing her chief residency in 1996. Christina was recruited to join The Mount Sinai Medical Center in 1997, practicing breast surgery, teaching medical students and working with surgical residents. She is the mother of two boys, Edmond and Oliver Ritter, and is married to Bruce McEver, a poet and the chairman of Berkshire Capital Securities.
